Persian miniature painting on camelbone.
The frame is made with traditional Khatamkari technique in Iran.
Khatamkari is an inlaying technique, the Persian version of marquetry. It is done by decorating a wooden or metallic object in various designs with very small pieces of wood, ivory, bone, and metal such as gold, silver, brass, aluminum, and twisted wire. Khatmkari is done on the surface of different objects such as jewelry boxes, clocks, photo frames, chessboards, pipes, tables, and a great variety of decorative objects.
